The Lady of Shalott - Part IV

I a la fi, els últims versos. Un final de conte ben romàntico-decimonònico-dramàtic.
I love it!

"The Lady of Shalott" by John William Waterhouse

IV

In the stormy east-wind straining,
The pale yellow woods were waning,
The broad stream in his banks complaining.
Heavily the low sky raining
pesadament, queia la pluja del cel baix,
Over towered Camelot;
sobre l'emmurallada Camelot.
Down she came and found a boat
La Dama baixà i trobà una barca
Beneath a willow left afloat,
que surava sota un salze,
And round about the prow she wrote
The Lady of Shalott
"la Dama de Shalott".

A cloudwhite crown of pearl she dight
Duia una corona blanca de perles
All raimented in snowy white
revestida d'un blanc com la neu
That loosely flew, (her zone in sight,
Clasped with one blinding diamond bright,)
abraçada amb un brillant diamant encegador,)
Her wide eyes fixed on Camelot
i els seus ulls ben oberts, mirant cap a Camelot.
Thought the squally eastwind keenly
Mentre el vent de l'est, turbulent i afilat
Blew, with folded arms serenely
bufava, serenament, amb les mans plegades,
By the water stood the queenly
lliscava per l'aigua la reial
Lady of Shalott.
Dama de Shalott.

And down the river's dim expanse
I avall, endinsant-se en la foscor del riu,
Like some bold seer in a trance,
com una audaç visionària en trànsit
Seeing all his own mischance -
contemplant el seu infortuni,
With a glassy countenance
amb mirada vidriosa,
Did she look to Camelot.
va mirar cap a Camelot.
And at the closing of the day
I mentre el dia arribava a la fi,
She loosed the chain and down she lay;
The broad stream bore her far away,
The Lady of Shalott.
a la Dama de Shalott.

Lying, robed in snowy white
That loosely flew to left and right --
que voleiava lliure a banda i banda,
The leaves upon her falling light --
les fulles queien lleugeres
Thro' the noises of the night,
enmig dels sorolls de la nit,
She floated down to Camelot:
mentre navegava cap a Camelot.
And as the boat-head wound along
I mentre la proa obria pas,
The willowy hills and fields among,
They heard her singing her last song,
The Lady of Shalott.
la Dama de Shalott.

As when to sailors while they roam,
Talment com quan els mariners naveguen
By creeks and outfalls far from home,
per rierols i cascades, lluny de casa,
Rising and dropping with the foam,
pujant i baixant amb l'escuma,
From dying swans wild warblings come,
arriben salvatges refilets de cignes moribunds
Blown shoreward; so to Camelot
Still the boat-head wound along
Mentre la proa obria pas,
The willowy hills and fields among,
They heard her chanting her deathsong
The Lady of Shalott.
la Dama de Shalott.

Heard a carol, mournful, holy,
Van sentir una tonada, trista, sagrada,
Chanted loudly, chanted lowly,
cantada en veu alta, cantada humilment,
Till her blood was frozen slowly,
fins que la sang se li gelà a poc a poc
And her eyes were darkened wholly,
Turn'd to towered Camelot.
virant cap a l'emmurallada Camelot.
For ere she reach'd upon the tide
Abans d'arribar amb la marea
The first house by the water-side,
a la primera casa de la riba,
Singing in her song she died,
morí cantant la seva cançó,
The Lady of Shalott.
la Dama de Shalott.

"The Lady of Shalott" by Arthur Hugues
Under tower and balcony,
Sota les torres i els balcons,
By garden-wall and gallery,
pels murs del jardí i les galeries,
A gleaming shape she floated by,
com una ombra resplendent surava,
Dead-pale between the houses high,
Silent into Camelot.
i en silenci, entrà a Camelot.
Out upon the wharfs they came,
Tots van córrer cap als molls,
Knight and Burgher, Lord and Dame,
cavallers i ciutadans, senyors i dames.
And round the prow they read her name,
The Lady of Shalott.
"la Dama de Shalott".

They crossed themselves, their stars they blest,
Knight, minstrel, abbot, squire and guest,
cavallers, joglars, abats, escuders i convidats.
There lay a parchment on her breast,
That puzzled more than all the rest,
que va desconcertar, encara més,
The wellfed wits at Camelot.
els enginys més ben alimentats de Camelot.
"The web was woven curiously,
"El tapís fou teixit amb curiositat,
The charm is broken utterly,
l'encant s'ha trencat del tot.
Draw near and fear not -- this is I,
Apropeu-vos i no tingueu por. Aquesta sóc jo,
The Lady of Shalott."
la Dama de Shalott."

"Lady of  Shalott arriving at Camelot" by G. E. Robertson
Who is this? And what is here?
Qui és? I què hi fa, aquí?
And in the lighted palace near
I en el palau il·luminat
Died the sound of royal cheer;
morí el so de l'animació reial
And they crossed themselves for fear,
i tots se senyaren amb temença,
All the Knights at Camelot;
tots els cavallers de Camelot.
But Lancelot mused a little space
Però Lancelot medità un instant
He said, "She has a lovely face;
i va dir: "Té un rostre preciós.
God in his mercy lend her grace,
The Lady of Shalott."
a la Dama de Shalott."

Both sides now

No cal dir gaire res més.

Bows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere, i've looked at cloud that way.
i muntanyes de plomes per tot arreu. He vist els núvols així.
But now they only block the sun, they rain and snow on everyone.
So many things i would have done but clouds got in my way.

I've looked at clouds from both sides now,
He mirat els núvols pels dos costats, ara,
From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions i recall.
I really don't know clouds at all.
Realment, no conec gens els núvols.

Moons and junes and ferris wheels, the dizzy dancing way you feel
Llunes i junys, i rodes de la fortuna. Et sents com en una dansa vertiginosa
As every fairy tale comes real; i've looked at love that way.
quan cada conte de fades esdevé real. He vist l'amor d'aquesta manera.
But now it's just another show. you leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know, don't give yourself away.
I si t'importa, no deixis que ho sàpiguen: no et rendeixis.

I've looked at love from both sides now,
He mirat l'amor des dels dos costats, ara,
From give and take, and still somehow
he donat i he rebut i encara, d'alguna manera,
It's love's illusions i recall.
I really don't know love at all.
Realment, no sé res de l'amor.

Tears and fears and feeling proud to say "i love you" right out loud,
Llàgrimes i temors, i el sentiment d'orgull en dir "t'estimo" alt i clar.
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds, i've looked at life that way.
Somnis i plans i circs en públic. He vist la vida així.
But now old friends are acting strange, they shake their heads, they say
que he canviat.
Well, something's lost but something's gained in living every day.

I've looked at life from both sides now,
From win and lose, and still somehow
He guanyat, he perdut i encara, d'alguna manera,
It's life's illusions i recall.
I really don't know life at all.

jo n'era l'esperança i l'orgull.
Acumulava incomptables riqueses

The Lady of Shalott - Part III

Part III

A bow-shot from her bower-eaves,
A un tir d'arc de la seva terrassa,
He rode between the barley sheaves,
The sun came dazzling thro' the leaves,
El sol enlluernava entre les fulles
And flamed upon the brazen greaves
i flamejava sobre les greves de bronze
Of bold Sir Lancelot.
de l'audaç Cavaller Lancelot.
A red-cross knight for ever kneel'd
Un cavaller de creu vermella per sempre
To a lady in his shield,
agenollat davant una dama, al seu escut,
That sparkled on the yellow field,
que brillava en el camp groc,
Beside remote Shalott.
prop de la remota Shalott.

The gemmy bridle glitter'd free,
La brida de gemmes brillava tan resplendent
Like to some branch of stars we see
Hung in the golden Galaxy.
penjada en la galàxia daurada.
The bridle bells rang merrily
Les campanetes també hi sonaven alegres,
As he rode down to Camelot:
mentre cavalcava rumb a Camelot.
And from his blazon'd baldric slung
I del blasonat baldric que duia creuat,
A mighty silver bugle hung,
penjava una potent corneta de plata.
And as he rode his armor rung
Mentre cavalcava, tota l'armadura sonava,
Beside remote Shalott.

All in the blue unclouded weather
Thick-jewell'd shone the saddle-leather,
brillava enjoiada la sella de pell;
The helmet and the helmet-feather
l'elm i la ploma
Burn'd like one burning flame together,
cremaven com una sola flama,
As he rode down to Camelot.
mentre cavalcava cap a Camelot.
As often thro' the purple night,
Below the starry clusters bright,
sota els cúmuls brillants d'estrelles,
Some bearded meteor, trailing light,
Moves over still Shalott.
passant per damunt de la quieta Shalott.

His broad clear brow in sunlight glow'd;
Lluent era el seu front ample i clar, sota els rajos del sol;
On burnish'd hooves his war-horse trode;
el cavall guerrer trotava amb cascs polits.
From underneath his helmet flow'd
Per sota de l'elm sobresortien
His coal-black curls as on he rode,
As he rode back to Camelot.
de tornada a Camelot.
From the bank and from the river
Passant per la riba i pel riu
He flashed into the crystal mirror,
"Tirra Lirra," by the river
"Tira, lira" - prop del riu
Sang Sir Lancelot.
cantava el Cavaller Lancelot.

She left the web, she left the loom,
She made three paces thro' the room,
Amb tres passes creuà la sala
She saw the water-lily bloom,
She saw the helmet and the plume,
Va veure el casc i la ploma,
She looked down to Camelot.
va mirar cap a Camelot.
Out flew the web and floated wide;
Lluny s'envolà la tela, planejant lliurement.
The mirror cracked from side to side;
"The curse is come upon me," cried
"La maledicció ha caigut sobre mi"-plorà
The Lady of Shalott.

The Lady of Shalott - Part II

The Lady of Shalott by John William Waterhouse

Part II

There she weaves by night and day
La Dama teixeix, nit i dia,
A magic web with colours gay,
un tapís màgic de colors brillants.
She has heard a whisper say,
Hi ha un rumor que diu
A curse is on her if she stay
que serà presa d'un malefici,
To look down to Camelot.
si mira cap a Camelot.
She knows not what the curse may be,
No sap quina mena de maledicció seria,
And so she weaveth steadily,
i així doncs continua teixint
And little other care hath she,
sense cap altre distracció,
The Lady of Shalott.
la Dama de Shalott.

And moving through a mirror clear
Apareixen en un mirall,
That hangs before her all the year,
penjat sempre davant seu,
Shadows of the world appear.
les ombres del món.
There she sees the highway near
Hi veu també l'ample camí
Winding down to Camelot;
que serpenteja cap a Camelot.
There the river eddy whirls,
Allà el riu forma remolins,
And there the surly village churls,
i hi viuen els esquerps vilatans
And the red cloaks of market girls
i els abrics vermells de les venedores
Pass onward from Shalott.
passen de llarg de Shalott.

Sometimes a troop of damsels glad,
An abbot on an ambling pad,
o un abat és portat sobre coixins;
Sometimes a curly shepherd lad,
de vegades un pastoret de cabells rinxolats
Or long-hair'd page in crimson clad,
Goes by to tower'd Camelot;
passa de llarg cap a l'emmurallada Camelot.
And sometimes thro' the mirror blue
I de vegades, en el mirall trist,
The Knights come riding two and two.
els cavallers hi apareixen cavalcant en parelles.
She hath no loyal Knight and true,
The Lady Of Shalott.
la Dama de Shalott.

But in her web she still delights
Amb tot, encara es delia per teixir
To weave the mirror's magic sights,
For often thro' the silent nights
Ben sovint, en les nits silencioses,
A funeral, with plumes and lights
un funeral, amb plomes i llums,
And music, went to Camelot;
i música, es dirigia cap a Camelot.
Or when the Moon was overhead,
O quan la lluna era ben alta,
Came two young lovers lately wed.
apareixien dos joves amants recent casats.
"I am half sick of shadows," said
"Estic cansada de veure només ombres", digué
The Lady Of Shalott.
un dia la Dama de Shalott.

The Lady of Shalott - I

       Part I

On either side of the river lie
A banda i banda del riu
Long fields of barley and of rye,
s'estenen camps d'ordi i de sègol
That clothe the world and meet the sky;
And thro' the field the road run by
Entre els camps, un camí condueix
To many-towered Camelot;
cap a la ciutat emmurallada de Camelot.
And up and down the people go,
La gent que va amunt i avall
Gazing where the lilies blow
contempla els lliris que floreixen
Round an island there below,
i envolten l'illa, més avall:
The island of Shalott.
l'illa de Shalott.

Willows whiten, aspens quiver,
Els salzes empal·lideixen, els àlbers tremolen.
Little breezes dusk and shiver
Una brisa suau anuncia el vespre i porta calfreds,
Thro' the wave that runs for ever
per l'aigua que oneja incansable
By the island in the river
vora l'illa del riu,
Flowing down to Camelot.
fluint cap a Camelot.
Four grey walls, and four grey towers,
Quatre murs grisos i quatre grises torres,
Overlook a space of flowers,
Més amunt, un jardí
And the silent isle imbowers
i l'illa silenciosa que guarda
The Lady of Shalott.
la Dama de Shalott.

By the margin, willow-veil'd,
Pels marges, vetllades pels salzes,
Slide the heavy barges trail'd
llisquen les pesades barcasses arrossegades
By slow horses; and unhailed
per cavalls lleugers i, desaparcebuda,
The shallop flitteth, silken-sail'd
la xalupa sura, fluint com la seda,
Skimming down to Camelot
lliscant cap a Camelot.
Yet who hath seen her wave her hand?
Or at the casement seen her stand?
O quieta en el batent del finestral?
Or is she know in all the land,
Algú l'ha vista en algun lloc,
The Lady of Shalott?
a la Dama de Shalott?

Only reapers, reaping early,
In among the bearded barley
entre l'ordi crescut,
Hear a song that echoes cheerly
senten una cançó que ressona alegre
From the river winding clearly
i clara amb el vent i que ve del riu,
Down to tower'd Camelot;
baixant cap a l'emmurallada Camelot.
And by the moon the reaper weary,
Piling sheaves in uplands airy,
mentre apilen les garbes als marges frescos,
Listening, whispers "'tis the fairy
escolten i murmuren: "és l'encantada,
The Lady of Shalott."
la Dama de Shalott."

Famous blue raincoat/Leonard Cohen

It's four in the morning, the end of December
I'm writing you now just to see if you're better
New York is cold, but I like where I'm living
There's music on Clinton Street all through the evening.
I hear that you're building your little house deep in the desert
You're living for nothing now, I hope you're keeping some kind of record.

Yes, and Jane came by with a lock of your hair
She said that you gave it to her
That night that you planned to go clear
Did you ever go clear?

Ah, the last time we saw you you looked so much older
Your famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulder
You'd been to the station to meet every train
And you came home without Lili Marlene

And you treated my woman to a flake of your life
And when she came back she was nobody's wife.

Well I see you there with the rose in your teeth
One more thin gypsy thief
Well I see Jane's awake --

She sends her regards.

And what can I tell you my brother, my killer
What can I possibly say?
I guess that I miss you, I guess I forgive you
I'm glad you stood in my way.

If you ever come by here, for Jane or for me
Your enemy is sleeping, and his woman is free.

Yes, and thanks, for the trouble you took from her eyes
I thought it was there for good so I never tried.

And Jane came by with a lock of your hair
She said that you gave it to her
That night that you planned to go clear --

Sincerely, L. Cohen

If I have to go/Tom Waits

If I have to go
de l'album Orphans, 2007.

And if I have to go, will you remember me?
Will you find someone else, while I'm away?
There's nothing for me, in this world full of strangers
It's all someone else's idea
I don't belong here, and you can't go with me
You'll only slow me down

Until I send for you, don't wear your hair that way
If you cannot be true, I'll understand
Tell all the others, you'll hold in your arms
That I said I'd come back for you
I'll leave my jacket to keep you warm
That's all that I can do

And if I have to go, will you remember me?
Will you find someone else, while I'm away?
